Wet And Forget Moss Killer Harmful To Cats
7 Answers
Warning to all. "Wet and Forget" is a very effective product for removing algae and moss on concrete or brick surfaces. It advertises itself as the only product of its kind that is safe for pets. Well I want to warn cat owners that it is not safe for cats!
My beautiful girl licked some of it and it burned her tongue and made her throw up. When she threw up, the contents of the vomit burned her throat. She was on a drip for two days and could not eat solid food for over a week. She is now very thin and has lost a lot of her coat. The vet says she has metabolised the poison now, so she is no longer in danger, but her body is reacting to the physical stress of being poisoned.
So - please beware of products that claim to be safe for pets. "Wet and Forget" has a very strong chemical smell. That should have been warning enough for me, and I should not have used it, and I feel guilty for inflicting this on my beautiful cat, but I believed the claims that it was safe.
Never, never again.

She is long haired so I think she soaked up a fair amount of it and then licked her fur. I accept that it was my fault, and I will never use it again. It is just not worth the risk.
I think she will be ok but it will take a while for her to be back to her beautiful self.

To be fair to the manufacturers, they do warn against pets coming into contact with the product while it's still wet:
"Q: Will it affect my pets?
A: Not under normal circumstances. However, keep your animals off the treated surface until it is dry, to ensure they don't ingest any of the product. If they accidentally walk or sit in the product wash their feet and bottoms with fresh water as a precaution"

Chequers, Biscuit, Moonbeam and Tablo all send their best 'get well soon' wishes to a fellow moggy, as do I!
