first of all my neighbours fence is the right hand side of my garden
i have two questions
1 is the myth actually true that i have to put the good side of the fence to the next doors side or can i keep it to my side and is this law
2 can i fix fence panels to my neighbours fence to make it higher its only four foot at moment i want to make it six

(e.g. if a dispute regarding ownership came before the courts, the court would normally rule - in the absence of any other evidence - that the 'post-owner' also owns the fence). If you're planning on putting up a fence 'back-to-front' it would be safest to get a document signed by both yourself and your neighbour lodged with the deeds of both houses. (Otherwise, when you come to sell the house, a prospective buyer might be put off by the possibility of disputes with neighbours).
2. Fixing panels to your neighbour's fence obviously involves making nail or screw holes. If you do this without your neighbour's consent you will be committing criminal damage.
