Mock Orange

hello all, if I plant a mock orange(coronarius) next to my house, will it damage the house foundation . I have a very small garden ,well previous owners paved it and I only have a border by back door . Thank you so much

This page, from the Queensland State Government website, says that mock orange plants shouldn't be situated within 5m of sewer pipes because of the damage they might cause:

So it's obvious that the roots can be quite intrusive and it might therefore be best to avoid planting them next to other things (such as your house foundations) which could potentially suffer damage.

May I suggest the Australian Mock Orange is a different plant and grows to 5 m. If you mean the Philadelphus then that should be fine, they are mainly bushes at a max of 2 m . Can't see how that could damage foundations.

Thank for your reply Prudie , my mock orange is a philadelphus and it grows up to 300 cm. but because I hear so many stories about planting so near to houses ,I worry about future trouble, as I don't know much about gardening.

Philadelphus can be a bit of a thug and personally I think you're right to be cautious about it growing so close to the house.
There are many, more shrubs that are more compact, that would suit that space and aspect better.
