Pot Plant

i.m looking for a medium sized plant to go in a pot outside that looks good all year, has anyone any suggestions. I like the unusual plants, i have several different yuccas already xx

Ceanothus?

acers will drop leaves

ceanothus is a climber

Acers in pots retain leaves most (or even all) of winter months.

Ceanothus can be grown as a wall shrub but is not really a true climber. It is brilliant if kept shaped in a pot.

But you live in the frozen wastes of Scottyland - in my Northants garden I still have leaves on my dissected purple acer ....

really ? never have seen one that didn't drop

I live as south as you can get and my potted Acers all drop their leaves

what about a dogwood with red stems? Cornus Alba Siberica, or a mahonia? wonderful winter flowers and scent, berries for birds and its evergreen

I've had a 'Beschroneria yuccoides in a pot for about 12 years, when it comes into flower, it blows me away every time, I can't think of anything else with that colour.

What about Nandina domestica or sacred bamboo. Spotted laurel or choysia ternata sundance is another option.

Never seen an evergreen Acer either by the way.
