Scrap Metal Value

I don't know where to post this query hence trying Chatterbank. I have an oil storage tank which is cluttering up my garden and I wonder if it has any value for scrap metal dealers. Anyone know?

Around this area a pick up truck keeps doing it's rounds around the streets, if it's the same in your area stop the driver and ask, going off what you have said Re/ the tank, I would think under a fiver, I would just ask them to remove it then it's out of your way.

I gave away a huge copper water cistern to get it out of the way. 350 good Welsh slates to get them out of the way. Sheets of lead, new computer chair and table/desk,
Very expensive storage shelving all to get them out of the way. No wonder I'm not rich. My wife says I'm always in the way,but no one wants me.

TWR I live in the countryside and there are no pick up trucks driving past here. Also I assume that I would have to pay to have it cut out and removed which is why I wondered if there is any scrap value to make it worthwhile.

Phone the council. They take a certain amount of stuff for free.

As scrap steel is only around £200 a tonne now the value hardly covers the cost of transporting it. A scrap collector will take it away free but that is a far as it goes. Plus as it contained oil it needs to be drained completely before it can be scrapped, fuel oil is classed as hazardous waste.

ummm I would do that with anything I could lift but this is huge and wedged between my house and a large shed. I have been offered a free shed the exact size of the tank and want to put it in the space when tank is gone.

And the scrap yard here you have to be registered with them so they log everything you scrap.

I am not sure if it is simply about removal or cost vs scrap value. Heating Oil Installations are subject to OFTEC regulations. You may have to dispose of the tank (and any contents) using an OFTEC qualified technician. It might be worth checking this out first:-

The problem is that the tank will still contain some oil and it will be full of inflammable fumes. I assume it is too big to just lift out whole? If a cutting torch was used to cut it into pieces for removal there would be a danger of fire and explosion. I am afraid it is going to need a specialist removal company to get rid of it. Plus as it is an oil tank it will be on a concrete base which will also have to be removed.
