Do you have one and if so any advice to me who might like to have one. I see the prices vary a lot and if so tend to go for the middle prices.

As I said, they are not a substitute for a "proper" vacuum cleaner although ours (an iRobot Roomba 866) does pick up quite a bit of dust and fluff. We usually set it off on is travels when we go out and come back to find that it has cleaned up and taken itself back "home" to recharge. If you have a large area of tiles or parquet, you could find one quite useful. They pick up a surprising amount of crud that you didn't know was there but they are not a substitute for a "proper" vacuum cleaner.

They can't cope with thick rugs and carpets.

Don't get one with expensive features that you don't need.

They are a bit noisy so check how many decibels they are.

Read reviews - some are better quality than others.

If you get one, you will probably give it a name :-)

Ronnie robot??? :-))
You'd do well to read the Which? tests on these things....There is only one Best Buy and two Don't Buys...performance varies widely from "very good" to "useless"..

(For your info....the only one REALLY worth having is the Dyson...at £800!)
£800 good gracious ,it would be cheaper to hire a lady to come in and vacuum for you lol x
//it would be cheaper to hire a lady to come in and vacuum for you//
i suspect that people doing that have a quick hoover round before she arrives
Nickname for Robovac. Inter Floorer?
£800 ...for a Hoover !
if that's the going rate rate i'll just have to suck it up

£800 ...for a Hoover !

No, . . . . for a Dyson !
I really can't get my head round why anyone would buy one of these.

We have a Roomba.

The only thing I've found he (even thought the voice is female, its a he!) doesn't like is a black carpet - I found that when I put him in the car boot to clean it!

As for a name - he's just Roomba.
By the time they've got around to making a decent version, I won't be able to afford it on my pension !
it cant get into the corners only round them, they cant be used for anything else but flooring ( not vacuuming furniture etc), really think these are the most useless under powered machines every devise for the home

It cleans reasonably well in corners as, although round, it has a flexible, circular brush on the side.

It cost nowhere near £800.

It does not affect the intruder alarm.

Thank you all for your interesting answers. It seems they are fine for in between cleanings which is what I'm looking for although I have yet to make up my mind.
