I plan to add an extension to my home [sun room] but do not want to darken existing dining room. If I were to make the pitched roof in a clear material this would do the job but I am not sure what is on the market.
I know about Velux windows but these are very expensive and would not give me the max. light that I want. Any ideas would be welcome.

Have you thought about a conservatory instead of a sun room...(if there's any difference). I presume the sun room will have a tiled/felted roof with windows in or similar. We sit out there all year as it has an oil filled rad and it's so nice just chilling with some relaxing classical music in among the palm trees, orchids and orange trees. |
In support of andyjevs' answer, I would suggest that you investigate twinwall/triplewall roofing - available from any reputable plastics supplier (try Yellow Pages) It provides good insulation, is UV resistant and if fitted properly gives excellent light (very good for greenhouses, too) Not cheap, but well worth the expense.
