Do you or perhaps someone you know, have one of those massive clocks that you can buy in places like The Range etc? What I want to know is do they have a loud tick or are they quiet like most battery operated clocks?

My daughter had one and I never noticed the tick - I bought one slightly smaller and had to take the battery out.

It's now an ornament that's right twice a day.

There may be a way to muffle the noise.

Thanks Mamy. I had a very small clock which has a really irritating tick. I used to love sitting in front of the fire in my grandmother's living room on a winters day eating a lovely slice of hot buttered toast and listening to her mantle clock, but I wouldn't want to get a clock which was OVER-loud. Perhaps I could try it out in the shop (sneak a battery in)!
That's a thought.
I have had a clock like that for about 5 years, its approx a foot in diameter, has the RSPB logo and birds where the numbers would normally be.
Seems perfectly silent to me.
ps- It takes 2x AA batteries, which are a bit fiddly to replace
I've got one that's a metre in diameter, it doesn't make a sound.
