Things On Leaves?

I have a leafy plant in my kitchen which is probably related to the spider plant. I've noticed tiny light brown marks on the leaves that resemble tiny insects but can't see them move at all. If I touch one it's easily scraped off but doesn't squash. Any idea what they could be?!

Red spider mites perhaps ?

What do they look like with a magnifying glass ?

This may seem daft, but could it be spore's if the plants are ferns ?
