Now that my dog has gone, I need to secure our fences as we are quite vulnerable. These are sold in B&Q, but would they be legal to use, do you think?

They should be fine as my elderly neighbour had exactly the same thing put on her fence by the local community support bobbies.
if a burglar was injured trying to gain access to your property the poor soul would probably sue you for damages

That's interesting, Webbo.

That's my concern, Ael.

I would like to grow a think holly bush alongside the fence, but it's not possible, unfortunately.
They are meant for walls, not fences. Grow some pyracantha?
My neighbour and I have used these for years and we checked with the police before fitting them. So long as you put a warning sign they are perfectly legal.

Zac, I've seen them on fences. It'll take years to get the pyracantha to the right height, and I'll probably be burgled in the meantime. There is a major spate of break ins round here at the moment.

Thanks vulcan.
rockyracoon, just looking at the product details, I see the warning sign is included.
I think these are made of plastic so although they would make it very uncomfortable for the burglar they should harm him (or her)
Ok to use, get some prickly plants too.
A cheaper option would be to use carpet gripper.
We used carpet grippers when we had neighbours.

Great minds and all that, ryzen:-)
Another option is anti climb paint, applied to the top of the fence.
I think carpet gripper would be illegal. It's vicious.
Oh I am sure they are legal or else this store would not sell them. They seem quite a good idea actually. So long as you dont put them on anything low where a child or an animal could hurt themselves by accident. I would put them on high fences or buildings.
