While some people may use the largest cylinders (just take a look at any travellers' site to see what I mean) most people will use bulk tanks. All the information you require is here:

If you are thinking of central heating then you would use too much gas for bottles to be viable so a fixed tank is needed. However, whilst the gas installation is straight forward, siting a gas tank is not always easy.
You would be better off with oil fired heating, this is cheaper than LPG to run despite the recent price increases and the tank is less restricted on siting.
