Now They Tell Me
13 Answers
Birmingham Council are coming to rewire tomorrow. A few weeks ago a nice chap came to tell me what to expect, and I asked about moving furniture.
Just put any fragile bits somewhere safe he said.
Just had a call from a lady working for the team. Have you got everything ready she said.
Fragile bits packed away I said.
Oh no she said. We need to to have all your furniture moved to the centre of the rooms, all the surfaces in the kitchen cleared and nothing obstructing us in the hall.
That's not what I was told. I am 61 years old with a bad back and asthma.
Can't your husband do it. She said
No he died a few months back
Your kids then
No kids
Well you must have someone
No not right now and you haven't given me long to find someone.
So everything fragile is on the spare bed, I can't move the office furniture because Dave fitted it in properly, one wardrobe will collapse if I try to move it and now my bath is full of the stuff that was under the bed. Apparently the freezer and cooker and washing machine need to move out too. Fair enough but I can't do it.
Hate feeling helpless when I moved in I was shifting stuff around quite happily and despite my efforts at the gym my joints won't let me do what I used to.
