Did you get a proper survey done or was it just the one the bank required? Were there any issues called out in the survey that needed attention? Roof, Guttering etc.
Pay attention to anything structural before worrying about anything cosmetic like coving and door trims.
If you're having gas you need to make sure that you have sufficient ventillation in the room that the appliance is in that normally means an airbrick.
If the chimney breast is coming out with the fireplace make sure it's properly supported structurally (probably an RSJ) there are some amazing horror stories of chimneys with no visible means of support.
Floors? you can always lay laminate after but solid flooring can be a pain to fit after a lot of decoration
Last thing SMOKE ALARMS!!! and a CO alarm if you're having gas is a good idea.

50's House. Good condition, mainly cosmetic stuff to do. Bank survey. Guttering was mentioned (sofits, facasias and guttering were all re-placed yesterday), pointing to external brickwork was mentioned but was going to leave that till next year as is only a minor prob (so survey said).
If the gas fire is fitted in the chimney will that be enough ventilation?
Got one of those chimneys in the kitchen lol, thats going to be done asap.
Gonna stick with comfy carpet I think. Gonna get a combined smoke/CO alarm, seen them in B&Q.
Thank you so much for your help.
