When it has dropped all its leaves, dig it up with as much soil around the roots as possible. Replant in new hole/pot etc. Back fill with the soil, preferably with a bit of organic matter such as leaf mould mixed in and firm well with your heels.
It's a really easy job to do.

Good luck

most trees of the prunus genus ie cherry's are fairly shallow rooted so it should'nt be too difficult. As stated before try to keep as much soil as possible attached to the roots and also importantly keep the roots well covered in between transplanting, out of drying winds, damp sacking or polythene sheeting should do. Rough up the bottom and the sides of the hole with a fork to help the roots get a good start in the new site. Try to avoid air pockets when back-filling, then dont forget to give it a good watering, and a mulch will help retain the moisture and suppress weed competition. A short stake will promote good root development. Best of luck
