During the wet spell my lawn is like a bog. The problem that I have is that there large patches of slime, just like Frog Spawn. Any idea as to what it is and how do I get rid of it?
I'm thinking it may be caused by bacteria due to standing/stagnant water.
You could try draining it off by sinking the tines of a garden fork into it but it sounds like a messy job. lawn sand may help too.
Jumping on the OPs post here. My lawn at the rear of the house used to be good. Over the last few years I’ve had trouble with recurring moss after repeated treating. It dawned on me that it’s possibly caused by the rainwater run off from my neighbors garden, making my lawn waterlogged. They have paving slabs decking Astro turf ect. Any ideas on how I can treat the lawn. Are there grass seed suitable for wet areas. Seed that will germinate in winter. Thanks.
You may have been spot-on, fuggy.
Its just possible, it could be unfertilized frogspawn from a female frog that may have deposited there by a frog that was attacked there by a predator this is not unknown and if so, it should decompose fairly quickly.
yes you can aerate and add in sand and if its just because of this year's excessive rain, it will help...BUT there is only one cure for a long term boggy lawn and that is properly improved drainage, eg french drains.
