Folding Desk
12 Answers
We have a nice big metal desk - trouble is, it’s too big and heavy to move, and takes up too much space.
What we want is a strong, sturdy, fold-up desk, solid enough for a sewing machine for example, but which would fold and be out of the way.
Any suggestions?

They can be folded up, and are fairly sturdy.
If not, then i'd suggest something like this, a bit more indoor style though.

If you're thinking sewing machine you can get specialist cabinets for around the price you've mentioned. We bought one a few years ago and find it very convenient. The sewing machine is fitted into the box (ours is about 30" wide. 18" deep), which is all done for you on delivery. To use the machine, open the box front which swings round to make a table about 60" wide by 18" deep. The box top then swings over to form a large sewing table. The sewing machine can then be brought up to the level of the table top - it's spring assisted, so no effort required. The inside of the front has storage for bobbins etc, which is available when you've opened it up.
If you have a good sewing machine shop near you go and have a look at them - lots of variations on the theme.
