Real Silver Sand Is It No Longer Available?
8 Answers
Years ago I used to buy silver sand in many builders outlets around Devon without a problem. It was very attractive and real silver in colour.
Now I am trying to buy some more, only now it is 3 times the price and yellow, and now when mixed with white cement it goes a horrid pink colour instead of the lover rich silvery colour I am used to!
I cant seem to find it anywhere, lots of places advertise silver sand but it clearly is nothing like silver, what is going on.
I want to make some silver concrete balls for a customer. I think we also called it leamore sand. unsure of spelling of "leamore" I expect "The Builder" will be able to enlighten me.

Know nothing about building but I think Hanson do a white sand for horticultural use. Not sure if it would be suitable for what you want.

Hiya Ratts,
As you say, proper silver sand mixed with white cement. I've used it for external rendering. No painting needed, the finish is just what you're looking for.
Here in Devon, although I haven't used it for a long time, it came up from Cornwall. (Granite country.)
There's a lot of granite in Wales. (Assuming you're still there.) You really need to see the product for yourself, so maybe check to see if there are any quarries near you.
I know the yellow sand. It's probably "pit sand", dug up rather than the result of crushed stone from a quarry.
Look out for any granite quarries in your area. Sorry I can't be of any help.
