As there is a post about vinegar going round - I would like to ask can you buy apart from that is it malt vinegar for your chips. Like can you buy other vinegars without having to buy the onions, cauliflowers, etc. Just the vinegar itself or similar.

Loads of different types of vinegar on sale.

Have a look at Tesco and type 'vinegar' into the search box and see what comes up.

You can now buy all sorts of vinegar in most supermarkets. White wine vinegar, cider vinegar, flavoured vinegar such as tarragon or even raspberry. Balsamic vinegar is sweeter than most and nice mixed with a bit of olive oil for a dressing.

I think that the colourless ‘vinegar’ often used in chip shops is ‘non brewed condiment’ which is a cheaper substitute for vinegar.

Morrisons sell bottles of 'chip shop vinegar'. It is only 50p a bottle and it is so tasty. Reminds me of going to the chippy 50 yrs ago.

Chip shop vinegar isn't vinegar at all but acetic acid, coloured and flavoured. It was invented to please teetotallers as it had no contact with alcohol.

After eating up all the pickled onions, we used to tip some of the pickled vinegar on chips. Mmmmm!

thank you for your answers - I did think you could buy only one kind of vinegar and that is acidic one sprinkled on your chips. Will look out for the others . Ta again
