I have posted on this before. I have just had a quote from a reputable plumber for £215 per hour to fix this plus parts. I need a Brandy. Is this a resonable price, if so I will just have to bite the bullet.

Price per hour seems a bit steep. I would get at least 2 more quotes.
Ridiculous quote. Any chance of a photo of the leaking joint .

Must be a local handyman who could do this in no time.

I still say £50 tops, short piece of pipe and two joints. An hour at most and that included a brew.
£215/hr Jeez. Where do you live to be charged that sort of money. You don't mean £21.50/hr do you?
I have used this stuff - it will seal the leak even when wet.

It needs doing properly with a new pipe section and appropriate joints.

I wish I lived near I would do it for £20.
The OP says the cylinder is leaking not the pipe. It could be a big job, especially if the airing cupboard has been built round the cylinder.
Do you have local paper, they will have adds in, or shops where tradesman put cards up.
We need to know what size the pipe is, 15 or 22 mm. What type of joint, soldered or compression. Also, what is at the ends of the pipe. Can you see where it enters the cylinder.
The original post mentioned a leaking joint.
I could understand the rate being £215 a day.
For work in my bathroom only a few months ago, I was quoted £200 a day plus parts, are you sure you heard him correctly?
It also said that the joint was scaled up indicating a leak at the joint.
I stand corrected, SK. £215/hour! You could get a lawyer to do it cheaper.
If the damaged joint can be seen through a hole in the ceiling it needs a permanent repair. I would not put any gubbins around it and then repair the ceiling.

He sent me a written quote after I sent him photos so no mistaking the price. I’m not sure how to post photos on here or I would. I live in Peterborough so I will check out some more locals. I really cannot afford his price and personally I thought it was a bit much
Question Author
It is not the cylinder that is leaking, it’s the pipe
I would get a fixed price from someone if you can, to replace a coupling will take 30 mins tops.
I agree TonyV. We just need to know what the pipe does, ie, hot water out, cold feed in or CH pipes. A piccy would help.
