Stool/Seat For Gardening

Mrs A has trouble getting up from her usual garden ‘stool’ (actually an inverted green box from the council). What she needs is something a bit higher, good sturdy base, maybe with side grab bars to help haul herself upright.

Any suggestions?

I have one very similar useful for keeping kneels dry and of the gravel.

I've seen seats like these that may be just the job. Try googling a mail order supplier such as coopers of stortford or easylife (many others). You can get them with wheels on too.

I think most diy stores and garden centres will sell these.

You could try them out before buying then.

we've got one like jollyroger's linked to. Flip it one way to kneel on, the other way to sit on. It seems to work very well. (Ours doesn't fold up but others do.)

Thanks all. The kneeler versions wouldn’t do for her - various conditions mean she can’t get up from kneeling - but thanks for the ideas.

Currently she’s using an old plastic garden chair with arms and a back - I might cut 2 or 3 inches off the legs (that’ll be fun).

Personally, I'm never trusting in plastic garden furniture, as it becomes brittle over time due to the elements. It can suddenly snap without warning, you see it on "you've been framed" all the time.
I would think metal is far more durable.

Your 1970's chairs are not for life chip .. ditch them and move on .. 8-)

I think people are recommending the kneeler as it can also be used as a seat Allen.

The kneeler that can be used as a stool .. I remember one day I was replacing a fence post and the disabled customer came out to watch it being done and for a bit of company.
She said she had bought a new garden stool and thought she would try it out for the first time.
As it happens it was one of these kneeler/stools.
She positioned it carefully and then sat down .. the next thing tommorows washing was on full display as she fell backwards into the borders !
She was screaming and I was doubled over laughing, it took me and the neighbour 5 minutes to pull her upright. They are a good idea but can be unstable when used as a seat on the lawn !

Allen if you want somethting really stable and very adjustable, I doubt you will have thought of this.
For as many years as I care to remember I have fished in matches. My fishing box can be positioned and levelled, regardless of the condition of the ground it sits on.
Have a look at this, it's not a luxury box, but it does have the prized Octoplus adjustable leg system already fitted. You would need to add a cushion and that's it !

Thanks alava, but Mrs A probably couldn’t get up from that.

This is the sort of thing we’re looking at - a conventional chair with short legs. This one’s got a 35cm seat height (bit dear though!)
