yes get rid of it the moss will hold water on the slate and cause it to become porous this is not ideal also it will look nicer with no moss
Slate become porous? Really?
yes with water any rock can become porous water can be very damaging if a waterlogged lump of moss sits on a piece of slate then the slate will never be able to fully dry where the moss sits this will eventually effect the slate
Yes. Slates are head and side-lapped to drain properly.
Moss could cause a bung-up, thus slowing up natural drainage.
It would have to be pretty bad though, for water to backup and allow leaks... but it could happen.
Yes, it is advisable to remove the moss from your roof. Moss on a roof can cause serious damage if left untreated! Moss holds alot of water and in the winter it gets very cold. When the moss freezes it expands and can cause unseen damage to your roof. We get our window cleaner to clean ours every year but he uses this tool to do the job https://roofscraper.co.uk/ he has a long pole and scrapes the moss off. He then applies a chemical to get rid of any moss spores. You might even find if you check your home insurance policies that a lot of things will become void if your property is not maintained properly and regularly. I even had one deny my claim for replacing my guttering because I did not get my gutter cleared as often as they wanted. I hope this helps. Best regards - John
