It was probably infused with DDT. I remember pretty cardboard cut-outs of baskets of pansies - also DDT infused.

Me, I'm asthmatic, can't hack sprays and I have rather horrible fly-papers hanging in the kitchen.

Gran used to tell me about the fly paper ones, infused with arsenic i think
As used by several famous murderers! I'm not that old - I'm talking about the 1950s here. DDgt was banned in its turn, of course. But it was probably something like that. A frame that could be filled with DDT-infused papers/card.
Yes, I know what you mean. I can picture it.
Damned if I can remember what it was called.
Was it Vapona?

Question Author
Hopkirk yes vapona it was called. Sure they are still available but maybe dont look like they did. Were quite good at killing the blighters off too, just had to hoover up the carcases
If you get these you don't have to hoover up any carcases because the flies can't get in. I can have my door and windows wide open and never get a fly buzzing around and driving me potty. You can get many difference sizes.

Ladybirder i will have a look thanks
I use those door curtains, they are good but don't last too many years. Plus you still get issues with open windows in hot weather.

Check the Internet as you can get different varieties of electronic fly killers. Some attract them inside using UV where they perish without causing any mess on show.

Thanks everyone
OG I have had mine about 5 years I think and they are as good as new. I'm wondering what sort of problem you have with them on your windows as I don't have a problem with mine?
I don't have any on the windows, just the door. Windows must be difficult as there are so many styles, bespoke sizes, etc..

Sooner or later holes appear in the mesh, the edges start to wear, magnets finally fall out, and the tape holding the velcro that holds it all up can get pulled off.
OG How long did you have them before they started falling apart? My dog goes in and out through mine all day and evening long and they are still like new. I'm wondering if some are better quality than others as that would explain the difference. I've certainly had my money's worth out of mine and couldn't grumble if they all fell apart tomorrow. Sorry your experience is not so good.
