700W Or 100W Microwave?

Is there a great deal of difference? Apart from the latter cooks quicker.

The later has the ability to destroy food quicker.

Depends upon how you use it.

I prefer the more powerful device.

I only asked cuz the 700w one seems to be the cheapest by far! 

I only tend to use microwaves for jacket spuds and hot drinks.

We just replaced our microwave. Our main concerns were the volume and timer controls - we have some tall jugs that we use in it and we like a digital timer. Like you, gone are the days when we cook complicated things and just use it for warming soups, puddings etc, custard, baked potatoes and our bedtime milk. Our last one was a combination model ie, had a heating element in it but we found we never used it (baked potatoes finished off in a small infra-red oven, so we just wanted a simple one. We opted for the cheapest John Lewis own-brand which is 800W and cost about £75. We're very pleased with it.

I love my combi microwave but it depends what you use it for.

If you use it just for reheating food then a 700W will be fine.

Barry I tend to use it for jacket spuds, rice+ reheating drinks. That's about it!

As far as I'm aware, the only difference is the lower wattage takes a little longer to cook things, usually a minute or 2, so if you're not in a hurry, get the lower wattage one.

For an extra fiver, I cud get a 1000w grill thrown in!!

I'd say no. We had one with a grill once. It came with an extra, (think of it like a metal cake stand) so that it lifted the food near to the top of the microwave to the grill bit. It was too big to keep in the cupboard, so it had to live inside the microwave. The grill is awkward to clean. Wouldn't have another.

The only downside of getting a 700w microwave is that you will have to convert the cooking times from what it states on the packet for 800w or 1000w.

Piggy, my grill wasn't a pain to clean but I suppose it could be if you grilled very fatty meat that spat everywhere.  That won't happen with the spuds.
