Water level in toilet bowl.

Have noticed over the past couple of days that the water level in the loo bowl drops after flushing. There's no obvious leaks anywhere that I can see. It hasn't done this before - should I be worried?!

This usually due to the water rushing down the drainage pipe faster than usual and causing a vacuum which pulls the water level in the bowl down with it.
The cause is another thing, this is sometimes caused by, shall we say .. ''a larger load then normal'' which might be a system problem (yours I mean) or putting more paper than usual in the bowl.

In fact thinking about it, you should have a pipe which goes up to the roof somewhere with a mesh over the top, to allow the system to equalise pressure etc... yours is probably blocked with leaves (or snow?)

It can do this if there is excessive vacuum in the drain. This could be caused by a blocked vent pipe or some other alteration to the drains. It can more often be because of a partial big job or paper blockage in or near the pan bend causing a syphon effect. This will normally clear after a while.

Our downstairs loo often displays this characteristic after somebody has used it for a "heavy dump". You normally know it's going to happen by the large amount of gurgling which follows immediately after the flush. Pouring down a bucket of water quickly usually cures it but normally it sorts itself out after several flushes.

All of the above answers are valid and it if keeps doing it after say a week then its probably a sign that the sides of the drain somewhere along the line are gradually clogging up (fat from down the kitchen sink does this, so does some dishwasher powders). It is caused by the reasons above and eventually you may have to get drainrods at it. It is unlikely to suddenly go wrong on you - just get worse over months.
