I've never claimed on my house insurance but it's worth it for the peace of mind

>>> "what is the chance of my house burning down?"

Probably very slim but so is the chance of it being struck by lightning - and I've been in a house when exactly that happened to it!

I admit to having had no insurance on my house for a couple of decades or so in the past, simply because I couldn't afford it at the time.  However I now have buildings and contents insurance through RIAS for roughly £165 p.a. (That's a recent renewal figure too, rather than being at the tail end of last year's premium).

I`ve been with Aviva for quite a while with no claims or problems, if I was unhappy I go to one of the comparison sites set my required ticks then choose the first name I see that I recognise.

Burning down...gas explosion...roof blowing off in high winds...hit by lorry etc. Yes, probably won't happen...but just might. That's what insurance is all about.

Oh, I've also been in a house struck by lightning (as Chris above)...no fun.

buildinngs are gor when it is burnt down

There are claimers and non-claimers - all computerised and identified. I dont think I have claimed.... ever.

because the buildings never fell down

four  or five burlaries bore the cost myself - oh when they hacked down the door, to get at the tel I claimed

sozza: buildings insurance is for when a building falls down

I regard buildings insurance like getting your teeth fixed / filled. You just do it and find the lu-lu

Just tried getting a quote from Post Office " we were not able to give you a quote due to the information provided"....  cannot understand it ...  no convictions, no claims., they don't say why ...

Trustpilot give RIAS. 1.5/5...

Sometimes things change - e.g. the flood risk map gets updated / reported burglaries increase / summat else.

Well the best price so far is with Policy Expert and their reviews are good ...   fingers crossed.

^Oh. I see that Policy Expert is owned by Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Although it's not a legal requirement smurf, insurance that includes 'Public Liability' is well worth having.

I've seen plenty of wayward slates and chimney stacks landing in the road 😯

Gingebee... is that good or bad??

I'm with LV, £336 last year but that is for a 6 bed 3 rec property.

^not sure, smurf...they aquired them only six months ago.

4 bedroom house LV wants to put it up to £386 so more than yours, young. You haven't received this years yet, I presume.

Seems no reasoning why mine should be more than yours.

See my thread re ins. I'm going DL this year over £100 cheaper.

Size of property isn't as crucial as location. A tiny house on the edge of a cliff or on a floodplain could be a lot more expensive than a large house elsewhere
