Can anyone please tell me the difference between ceramic hobs and induction hobs?

And, which is better?

Induction hobs are usually also ceramic, and they heat up more quickly, but they do need iron/steel bottomed pans.

Non-induction ceramic have a heating element below the surface, induction generate heat in the pans themselves (an induction hob switched on but nothing on it remains cool, a non-induction with nothing on it heats up)

Induction hobs are much cheaper to run than any other electric hob.

It is cheaper for me to boil water on my induction hob than an electric kettle.

Super easy to clean and it reacts as quickly as a gas hob. Impossible to burn yourself on an induction hob, too.

Induction hovs also make many of your existing pans useless. And you can alway burn yourself on an induction heated pan if not careful.

If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan, it will work on induction hobs

Thanks everyone. I'll check my pans, don't fancy having to replace them! 

One solution to unsuitable pans is to invest in a steel plate to rest them on over the hob. A bit inefficient though, and also a bit of a hazard in my opinion.
