vaseline -gone off?

i have a very old jar of vaseline where the vaseline has recently turned yellow -is it safe to use or has it gone off?

If its for use on a person......buy fresh. You can put the 'very old' one in the garage for a multitude of uses, so nothings really wasted.

I agree with pignpog good for putting on woodscrew&screw threads.
Its so cheap to buy vaseline, don't take a chance by putting it on your skin.
I really can't think how vaseline can "go off" in itself but it could pick up traces of other materials it comes into contact with because it is essentially a petroleum product. We bought a huge jar of the stuff more than a decade ago and still use what remains (colour unchanged - neutral/clear).
