You wonder where you will get the time.A couple of hours at a time just feels like a less intense way to go. Garden clearance companies are a good start (just get a few quotes they will vary wildly I'm sure , just pick the cheapest this is not really skilled work) they have always been cheaper than I have expected and you feel so much better when you know that there is nothing unpleasant waiting to pop out from the under growth.
To be honest ,quite often, even cutting the grass back using a strimmer (from a hire shop) is a great start and only takes an hour or two. Then 'work' and plant in small sections, even using grow bags to start climbers and things .The advantage of doing this is that if you don' t like something in a particular spot or it does not do well because of too much sun etc you can move it before permament planting easily. For seeds we go to the discount retailers like lidl and aldi as they are good quality and cheap. You can make a temp. climbing plant support from garden canes, so you can grow things like runner beans ,tomato and cucumber in the grow bags. I stick upside down pop bottles with water in the bag so they don't dry out. Happy gardening!
