Lead pipes

My father in law has lead pipes to his gas cooker. He needs a new cooker will he have to have new copper pipes installed or will they fix it to the lead ones already there?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Really depends on the Gas Fitter - some will, some won't. I suspect some of that is dependent upon the ability of the Fitter to work with lead - some simply don't know how or are out of practice.
If the existing pipework is in good enough condition there is no reason why a small section of copper can't be 'sweated' on for the cooker connection.
