can anyone recommend a good firm which operates in the Edinburgh/East Lothian area of Scotland please?

Sorry I can't help you on this one as I'm not in your area but can only issue a word of warning from personal bitter experience. Some local double glazing enterprises may be quite small and if the economy is bad, may end up going broke and not be able to honour their warranty if something goes wrong, which for a good company, could be up to ten years. Unless you're really certain about a local company's reputation and financial stability you might be better off considering a large national company. Don't know whether Anglian operate in your part of the world but they're well known in England.
