Avoid cutting into young tender growth and instead cut into older wood approx 3ft or more below the tips at just above a branch junction and fresh new shoots should appear in a few weeks.
ps be aware that its likely to "bleed" some white laytex sap after pruning. Use pruners or pruning saw and gloves for safety. Good Luck.
