After I plant my lobelias the leaves turn dark maroon color... why

I think it might be a reaction to tempreture change, as they are considered to be a little frost tender. hopefully they will acclimatize soon and regain their normal colour.

Its far too early to plant out tender bedding plants like lobelia. Frost will cause the leaves to turn maroon & could completly destroy them. If you've already planted them, cover them whenever frost is forecast. I've just noticed you spelt color the American way, are you from there?

With respect, we seem to have a little confusion here with 'Lobelia', there are two types which are very different ie lobelia erinus, the the half hardy annual commonly used as a bedding plant,which can usually be planted out in may in most UK regions, then we have lobelia cardinalis which is a border perenial and will thrive in sun or shade, it requirs constantly damp soil,its ideal position is as a pond marginal (watch out for slugs) It was the latter that I responded to. Hope that clears things up.
