I'm having another go to pass my test. My problem that when I get in the car with the examiner with the clipboard and pen I become an absolute wreck and a bundle of nerves. I'm fine with anyone else, but I really want to pass this time.

Does anyone have the name of something I can take to keep me calm?

People rewckon Rescue Remedy is a good natrual calming agent.

If your GP will prescribe, take 2mg of Temazepam an hour before, you'll be relaxed, but not incapacitated - but if you are unsure, go with the RR.

I used Bach Flower Remedies for my driving test. You can get this at any Boots store. I t specifically says on the box and bottle that it is recommended for driving tests. I took 2 drops 2 times a day under my tongue for a week before my test. I passed my driving test after 4 goes, and tried it for my final go, and the difference it made was surprising, I was very calm and clear, plus I didn't cry during the test!!

It's natural, so worth a shot...

GOOD LUCK!

I am not a medical man but I would think that taking anything to calm your nerves is an absolute NO NO.

You need to be sharp and totally alert. It won't hurt to have a little bit of adrenalin flowing you just have to control it. A car is a machine that needs the driver to be in full control.

A driving examiner will be used to nervous gabbly people so take deep breaths to reduce your tension levels, get positive thoughts and take each section as it comes.

I have to say that I agree with parkesquay that taking any medication to relax or calm you before driving a car is a big "NO". If it's any consolation to you, when I took my driving test, I was so nervous in the pre-hour warm up, I drove across a red traffic light and knocked a man off his bike. Luckily he wasn't hurt. My driving instructor took me off to a quiet road and made me sit for half a hour with my eyes closed doing nothing except deep breathing exercises. It really relaxed me and I passed. So start training yourself now to do deep breathing exercises whenever you have a moment to spare so that by the time your next test comes you have a technique for controlling your nerves. Good luck.
Place a lavender bag somewhere safe in the car where you can smell it - dangle one from the dashboard or something. Lavender is a very calming scent. It also eases headaches.

I was very nervous too, I had problems trying to stop my legs shaking like jelly, so I decided to "grasp the bull by the hons" and send myself off on a week long residential driving course, at the guest house I met a very nice Indian lady (mrs Patel) who was also on the course and she was very nervous too but we helped each other by chatting and exchanging notes in the evenings, it was then that mrs Patel introduced me to a product called "Natracalm" which contains passion flower, she seemed like a sencible person and she told me she was a chemist, so I decided to giv it a go, after taking the tiny tablets I could'nt honestly say I felt any differant. Well to cut to the chase I passed my test surprisingly easily and so did the charming mrs patel!!

Best of Luck.

I recommend Bach Rescue Remedy, it comes in drops or as a spray on the tongue.

I failed my first attempt at my test. Second time round I was so nervous I thought I would puke on the wheel. My advice is to work with the panic. It will make you more alert, and every examiner is used to people panicking. If they're a good examiner, they'll do their best to calm you down and make you feel comfortable too. I didn't take a thing for my nerves, and I passed with only 4 minors! Hooorrrrraaaaah!

My boyfriend had the exact same problem as you, and had to sit his test about 5 times, kept failing because he was so nervous!
Anyway, the time he passed, he has on Beta Blockers from the doctor. Also, I hung some lavender in the car which is really calming. I know it's hard to calm down under pressure, but try hard to think positively and try some breathing exercises. You could site quietly for 10 mins before the test breathing deeply in through your nose and out through mouth. This should help

Best of luck!
