I currently have a freestanding gas cooker with eye level grill but am having the kitchen done so I am going to buy a built in oven and hob but whats the best to buy? Was thinking of getting a ceramic hob thinking it will be a breeze to keep clean, am I right in thinking this? Thanks.
Yes, they're great to keep clean, but I found it hard to cope going from gas to ceramic - the instant heat-up / cool-down you get from gas just doesn't happen with ceramic, so the way you cook changes completely!
Am sure it will be much easier to keep clean. But I too moved from a freestanding gas cooker with a folding gas eye level grill when my kitchen was updated. I now have a built-in cooker electric grill which is highly inefficient and c * * p. I wish I'd stuck to my guns and kept my original cooker .Grilling with electricity is horrible so you may find you have quite a few adjustments to make going from one type of cooking to another. If you look in all the professional kitchens the chefs always seem to use gas as the cooking medium, and now I understand why.
Ceramic hobs are lovely to look at,but you don't have the same control as you do with gas, gas is instantaneous, ceramic hobs take quite a while to cool down, and you never have a gas suppply interruption, unlike you can with electric.
ive used a ceramic hob, a normal electric hob and a gas hob before. I would say that the ceramic is my faviourate, but thats probably cos i was used to using a electric cooker, as the others say the main difference between ceramic and gas is gas has instant heat, however i could never get used to this instant heat, the ceramic however heats up alot quicker than normal electric hobs.
