My neighbour is doing his nut about squirrels in his garden and said they are in his loft???.He is getting quite shirty about them now and as we live on the very edge of a park (three doors away) he won't accept that they will get into his garden from there. Has anyone any ideas of a humane deterant for them please. I don't think he liked my suggestion that he moved lol.

They are classed as vermin and can do very real damage if they get inside your house.

If you trap them it is illegal to release them - you either have to keep them or kill them.

My neighbour shoots them, another neighbour traps them and then puts the trap in a water butt.

Poison is dodgy - you cannot trust that only squirrels will eat it.

You can buy high frequency sound devices that are supposed to deter squirrels - but I would not rely on them.

Squirrels in your loft are an absolute nightmare.

I had 2 nights of scampering footsteps in the early hours until I was fit to kill.

I'm afraid the ultrasonic devices are next to useless funniest and most accurate comment I've read on them is:

Are the instructions something like this?

Place pest on brick.
Smash with ultrasonic pest repeller.
Repeat for each pest.
When used according to instructions, will rid your house of pests.

If they were any good pest control companies would use them - they don't.

I went into the loft in the day, they were out and I blocked up any holes I could find - worked for me

You need to get someone in to deal with them. My mum and their neighbour had them in their loft and I think they rang enviorenmental health dept. They would tell you what to do anyway.

Many thanks for all your help with the squirrels in my neighbours garden. None of us other neighbours think they are in his loft hence the ??? we think they are birds but...!!! I am going to suggest the high frequency sound thingy to him. Won't even tell him about the water butt!!!!!! and the envrionmental health people in our area don't want to know about squirrels unless it is a council house and this is not. Thanks again for your help.
