There is a special wax used by stonemasons which only they seem to have. Use extremely sparingly after cleaning but once buffed it lasts absolutely yonks. Nine years ago I put down marble flooring and the wax coat is still holding up. We have followed the advice of italian friends: use only pure water for cleaning, no soaps of any kind, certainly no detergents.
It's this stuff. http://www.delta-research.com/prodotti/prodott i_generica.asp?lingua=inglese#
(click on the yellow square box in the top right corner - its called Kit Marmo). This is an Italian-based website and I don't know who distributes in the UK - try phoning a specialist supplier of marble worktops near you.
