If mine goes wrong tomorrow i'll go straight out and replace it ! I've got a Flymo vac and you alter it to blow so you can make a pile of leaves and vac them all up togther.....go for it !
Round here, the gardeners all set them on blow -and just push the stuff outside someone elses house, or as a huge pile of debris onto the road,(so that at the first drop of rain your car makes no contact with the road surface - beats paying for a white knuckle experience at a theme park)
Thank the Lord I don't live in a cul de sac, I would not be able to open door or see through window due to man -made leaf drifts. : 0 ) So they work, but are not necessarily neighbour friendly!
I bought one especially for blowing the dust out of the garage, it beats sweeping every time.
Our Black & Decker one is brilliant - it does have a blow facility but we only really use the hoover. It shreds, spits out stones, and then the stuff can be added to the composter or made into leafmould.
Can second Plockets post. B&D vac or blow, only used vacuum tho, cldnt see the point in sending the leaves to one area first! Great, shreds to 1/7th of original size, and into the compost TA RA!!

Best garden tool, to have if you suffer from leaves!
