Is there a rule-of-thumb for how much conveyancing on a house sale/purchase should be? I've been quoted 700 for my sale and I'm waiting for a cost for my purchase.

usually the searches are a set price. I got quotes off a number of solicitors and they all said roughly the same. I think it might go off the price of your house also

Thanks
I reckon its almost an unoffical cartel managed through the Law Society, since I have had the same experience as above from phoning a dozen solicitors at random in different parts of the country and they all quoted a similar price, based on the expected purchased and sale price. It is possible to get it done more cheaply by using the web to search online - I used a practice 250 miles away in Manchester and saved about 30% of the price quoted.
