Why are the faces of my clump of giant sunflowers all permanently facing east - away from my back garden window? Most inconsiderate of them not to allow me to enjoy them fully, considering all the care I've put into nurturing them and the fact that tthey enjoy full sun all day.

Yes I've found that sunflowers almost always face the sunrise. Where I live 3 of us used to plant them & enjoy each others sunny faces! :o)
mine seems to face different directions during the day depending on where the sun is...
Sunflowers normally follow the sun.
I would be temted to give them a good talking to!!
OK TEMPTED, yes I know!!
They think they are too good to be in your garden. Snobs!
Sunflowers follow the sun and will move with the direction of the sun. They sort of loiter in an easterly direction waiting for the sunrise.
Next time try planting each one in a pot, then you can face them any which way!

Just Rotate :-)
