Went on a site to switch and it came up that I would save �180 if I went with British Gas (hadn^t asked who I was with.) Guess what I^m already with them

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Firstly, it may be right, because all the companies have different tariffs and (no surprise) if you're on an expensive one, the company won't switch you to the cheaper one. You have to sort it out yourself.
Secondly, I agree with you, in that I have some doubts as to whether the info the 'independent' sites give you is accurate. I've been through the process, put all the facts in, and have been offered a 'cheaper' supplier that was actually more than I'm paying already! I vaguely remember reading somewhere that one of the sites got a 'black mark' from Which? or some other consumer body, for having an unjustified bias towards certain suppliers.
