how do you seperate the new plants from the mother plants to get them to root

Hi cazzbazz,
These small sprouts (pups) that often grow around the base of cordylines should be fairly easy to tease away from the parent plant with the aid of a small hand fork or larger according to the size of the sprouts.

it wont work because they have grown to big. tried breaking one off and it died
