I tthink it's probably bes to use some good quality white shoe renovating cream, this should keep the leather supple and cover any scuff marks, you can sponge them lightly before using it to remove any dirt, should be fine tingirl.

I've just made this suggestion to one or two other people with leather cleaning queries. I recently did a Google.co.uk (UK only) search for "leather cleaning" - typed in just like that complete with double quotation marks - and on the first page returned there was at least one site about cleaning leather shoes. I think it was products to buy but there may also have been tips as well.
