My husband has just fitted a new front door. All went well untill we got to the glass panel and it was way to big for the whole. Apparently you have to cut it to size yourself. We managed to get a friend to come and cut it for us. Has anyone ever had to do this? It looks very nice now it is fitted.

i always thought double glazed units where made to measure?

It was the panel. The glass was already in the door. We gave them all the measurements and waited 3 weeks for the door to be made. That's why we were surprised when it was about 9inches too wide. Had to cut equal amounts of each side obviously for the glass to be central. Bit of a palava to say the least. Must admit we have in the past had a proper double glazing firm to fix them.
Doors are made in a range of standard sizes in the UK, bizarrely including both Imperial and Metric sizes. If you order from a manufacturer, you have to buy the next biggest size and trim. If it had glass included in the package, I assume the glass was just tacked into the frame because it has to be taken out when fitting. I'm not surprised you had to cut it down because frames aren't often square and there is inevitably some fitting to be done on site. However this should have been made clear to you when you ordered.
