Ants.

Am I being paranoid or are we being over run with ants? When we first moved into our house we had 1 or 2 ants nests in our garden, now many years later we have 15 to 20, they are even nesting in our wall cavity. We even have flying ants emerging from the cavity into the bedrooms even in winter. Everyone I talk to say the same. What`s the rest of the Country like?

bustergutt, I too have an ant problem. I am using Nippon and a spray called Dethlac. The Dethlac seems ok but you have to keep reapplying as it washes off in the rain. I spray the brickwork around the base of my house up to about 4 inches. I have to say I have noticed a lot more ant nests in the garden and this year they were all over every single pot, even the few herbs that I have. When I emptied the kitchen bin on Monday there was a lone ant crawling on some rubbish. Now I KNOW there isn't just one solitary ant in my house. Problem is it is becoming an obsession with me and I think I see them crawling on the carpet out of the corner of my eye and I find it hard to relax, especially as the nights are drawing in. I have no answer for you but after speaking to colleagues here, they too seem to have a problem. If you can solve this problem I am sure you would make a fortune! I'm from Huntingdon by the way.
We were troubled by ants in our last house and after years of trying to exterminate them we had no success. They seem to like breeding under paving stones near the patio and like the previous respondent found them in the cavity wall. You are fighting a losing battle if you just attempt to kill the soldier ants. The best solution I found was to locate and kill off the queen ants (ie the ones with wings).
hi, have a look in the shops for a aerosol called RAID. i know that they sell it in Tescos but it costs about �2.odd. If you live near a store called Home Bargains they sell the same stuff for 99p. It sprays as a foam but dissapears 'before your very eyes' to become an invisible coating that really does kill insects, and it stays on for weeks. The reson for the amount of ants is of course the unusually hot weather a few weeks back
