I don't know if this would be better placed in law, but is it illegal to have bars on ground floor windows in Scotland, particularly Glasgow? I remember hearing a few years ago that it went against fire safety laws. Anyone know?!

No idea, but the fire safety officer at your local fire station will be happy to advise you.

Phone during normal office hours, Monday to Friday.
probably too late now - but - I think that would be right as in Scotland you are not allowed to have full windows upstairs with a hopper type top part either. This is for fire reasons.
