weed problem

my front garden is open plan with no walls or fences as are both my neighbours,unfortunatley neither neighbour tends there garden and as a result my newly turfed lawn is now turning into a garden full of weeds,does anyone know what would be the best remedy apart from weedkiller to stop or prevent my garden being ruined,,or is it simply save up and block pave?????????????
