Hi after many fristrating hrs and visits to screwfix, can anyone help me out on fitting a bathroom sink. I have fitted the sink and all the pipework, but i am having trouble with the plug leaking. I have tried 4 different captive nuts for the plug, the actual plug is fine but when i empty the water out, water leaks through the big plastic nut holding everything in place. Am i dooing something wrong, as at this moment i could commit harry carry, can someone help.

Sometimes the drain kit has a rubber gasket, but more often you need a product called "Plumber's Putty"... it comes in a can (I'm in the U.S., by the way) and is the consistency of children's play dough. Roll out a length (between the palms of your hands, just like a kid) long enough to go around the base of the drain and about the size of a pencil. Place it around the base, insert the base in the drain hole and when you apply force to the nut on the bottom, a lot of the putty will squeeze out. Tt's easy to wipe out the surplus and you should be good to go... Best of luck!
ray's idea is a good one, but, equally as good is a small roll of Teflon Plumber's Tape available at all DIY stores. It's usually white in color and about 1/2 inch wide. Where the joints screw together, wrab the male part with two or three wrappings of the tape and rejoin. Again, good luck with a frustrating problem...
