The fridge compartment in my Zanussi fridge freezer(model ZX79/5W) doesn't seem to cool no matter what I set the thermostat to. I have defrosted the freezer compartment then turn the appliance on agan which cured the problem for about a week, but it has now returned. Can anyone help, or is it at the end of its life?

Hi mejtalbot,

There are many reasons why your fridge is malfunctioning, however one of the most commonest is that the thermostat has packed up.

These are inexpensive to replace yourself, but once again you must know what you are doing. By shorting out the two wires at the thermostat the fridge should start working, i.e. if your thermostat is faulty. You would then have to replace the faulty unit.

There is no need to replace it with a Zanussi one there are numerous other universal ones that are equally as good

Thanks CSG2306,
I have changed the PCB, which contains and controls the thermostat, defrosted thoroughly then restarted the fridge freezer, it worked for a week then the fridge compartment packed up again. N E other ideas what the problem could be?
