I would like a telephone socket in an upstairs bedroom in my house. Not a new or additional telephone line; just a socket so I can plug in my computer and/or telephone. I once asked BT and they told me I have to get an electrician to do it. I asked an electrician and he told me I have to get BT for this. Today I visited the BT website but could find no info and no telephone no. to call. I filled in an enquiry form but I am not confident I'll get a sensible reply. Does anyone know who I should call please?

Do it yourself,it is easy, your electrician is talking rubbish, get some 4 core telephone cable (sometimes called 2 pair cable) take off the front of thr bt point you will see 4 terminals, run the cable from the point to where you want the new point, buy an extension phone point, connect the wires, they go into terminals 2,3,4 & 5 the only thing you have to remember is if you put the blue/white cable into terminal 2 it must be the same at extension so must all the others correspond but it doesn't matter which colours go where, if you dont want to do this just buy a long extension lead, Ray
Have a look here,it explains it better than I do, Ray

You can now buy these phone extensions with an internet socket complete with splitter from hardware stores. Useful if you want to connect your router to it especially if you are using ethernet and don't want a long unsightly cable.

Thanks for the replies; I did not want an extension to run along my walls, up the stairs, across the landing and into the upstairs bedroom; I finally managed to get sense out of BT and an engineer will be coming round in early January; I would like the line to come into the bedroom from the road, so to speak. Thank you all again for the replies.
Not meaning any disrespect to Ray, I worked on BT, and some of their various contractors for over 15 years ... and I can honestly say that telephone wiring done by electricians is 99% of the time wrong, or faulty or both. Lack of proper training see...

Sorry Ray .... nothing personal mate Կ
dont bt charge for this?
