To turn on the appliance
check that the water valves to the central heating circuit are open
Check that the grey needle on the pressure gauge is not below the required pressure ( approx 1 Bar when cold)
Check the fuse has not gone and the electricity is on. The power indicator light should be lit.
Set the room thermostat, If fitted to maximum.
Turn the central heating temperature control knob to max
And the burner should light on its own...
If this fails then post again i will talk you through what to if you have a burner lock out. I will check back a bit later but i got family arriving shortley. Good look.

Thanks very much - i made sure there was power, the indicator is on, the pressure guage is 1.5 bars. No thermostat but the dial is on max. It still doesnt work im afraid - when i turn on the mains, i can hear the pump but there is no sound of the ignition lighting the flame unfortunately and you can normally hear this...
Thanks for your replies at this time of year - i hope you have a great crimbo :)

I assume that you have checked that the oveheat cut off button on the top left hand side does not require pressing back down ??? And you have tried to re-set the boiler by ending all present demand which in central heating demand means turning the knob to the sun symbol and back to the required setting. And also that the gas supply has not been interuppted.
The boiler will also enter a lockout condition in the event of an air flow fault.
If the controls fail to detect the correct air flow through the appliance the electricity supply to the gas valve will be interupted.
The appliance will try to light itself once the air flow signal is re-established.
Check that the flue terminal has not been obstructed or damaged, and that the fan and air pressure switch are in good order . pull off the silicone hose from the air pressure switch to the flue venturi and check there is no debri blocking the holes and check the hoses themselves for punctures or damage.
If this condition continues to occur, then i am afriad you need an engineer. :o( ( Possibly a new PCB required )
